ZSF Protests High ST Cut-off Marks for Manipur Candidates in SSC-GD 2024 Results

The ZSF has demanded that the Staff Selection Commission either conduct an all-India level or at least a Northeast India level competition

The Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) has raised concerns over the unreasonably high cut-off marks for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates from Manipur in the recently announced SSC-GD 2024 results.

In a representation submitted to the Chairman of the Staff Selection Commission, S. Gopalakrishnan, the federation said that the cut-off marks for ST candidates were higher than those for unreserved (general) candidates and other categories, resulting in the exclusion of many deserving and qualified ST candidates.

According to the ZSF, the ST cut-off marks in certain cases exceeded those of general category candidates. For example, in the CISF service recruitment, the ST cut-off mark was 100.97, while the general category’s cut-off was 93.71.

The Federation pointed out that the ST cut-off marks were higher than those for other categories like OBC, SC, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates, despite the fact that the ST quota is the smallest among these categories in Manipur.

ZSF further highlighted discrepancies where ST candidates with higher marks than general category candidates were not selected. The Federation expressed deep dissatisfaction with this, claiming that the high cut-off marks had led to the rejection of many qualified ST candidates from Manipur.

Some candidates who scored around 67 marks, for example, were not selected, while general category candidates who scored below 65 marks were selected.

In response, the ZSF has demanded that the Staff Selection Commission either conduct an all-India level or at least a Northeast India level competition.

They said that since candidates from different states are allocated specific seats under each category, ST candidates from Manipur are forced to compete within a smaller pool, leading to artificially high cut-off marks.

The Federation emphasized that recruitment for All India Services should allow competition on a national level for all candidates, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity across all categories.
