YTF Announces First Plenary Session in Agartala, Will Discuss Greater Tipraland, Tipra Accord, and Village Elections

First Published: 22nd February, 2025 21:33 IST

The two-day session, beginning on February 27, will shape the future direction of the YTF and could significantly impact the party.

The Youth Tribal Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the ruling Tipra Motha party, has announced that it will hold its first-ever plenary session in Agartala by the end of this month. The announcement was made during a press conference in the state capital on Saturday.

The two-day session, beginning on February 27, will shape the future direction of the YTF and could significantly impact the Tipra Motha party. Key discussions will revolve around the demand for Greater Tipraland, the implementation of the Tipra Accord, and the long-pending village council elections.

The event will be attended by prominent leaders, including Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, Ministers, MLAs, and MDCs.

YTF president Suraj Debbarma reaffirmed his trust in Pradyot Kishore’s leadership, expressing confidence that the central government would honor its commitments under the Tipra Accord despite opposition within the state.

“We are waiting to see that the promises made in the agreement are fulfilled. We stand firmly with Pradyot Kishore in whatever decision he takes,” he stated.

Debbarma also referenced a recent warning from the Tipra Motha chief, who indicated in a social media post that if the central government fails to implement the Tipra Accord, the party might exit the ruling BJP alliance. The YTF, he emphasized, supports this stance.

Raising concerns about stalled development in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Debbarma noted that despite Tipra Motha’s victory in 2021, a shortage of funds has hindered progress. He also criticized the delay in village committee elections, pending for over four years despite court orders.

“The delay in village council elections is severely hampering development in TTAADC. We urge the state government to conduct the elections immediately,” he asserted.

With TTAADC covering over 70% of Tripura’s geographical area, the upcoming YTF plenary session is expected to address crucial issues, potentially influencing the dynamics of the BJP-led alliance in the state.
