Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday called upon writers to focus more on climate change, harmony and peaceful co-existence besides stressing the need for greater focus on literary translation.

The Assam Chief minister was speaking after formally inaugurating the three-day Brahmaputra Literary Festival at the Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. He also hoped that the literary festival will facilitate intellectual exchange and promote the habit of reading among youths in particular.
The Assam chief minister also announced that the governemnt will embark on a massive plantation drive, and aims to plant a crore saplings a year to stem rising pollution levels. Over a 100 writers are expected to attend the three day festival that will also include a number of interactive sessions. The three-day festival is being jointly organized by the National Book Trust and the Assam Prakashan Parishad.
