Woman Stabbed in Broad Daylight in Guwahati, Suffers Injuries to Face, Neck, and Hands

In a deeply disturbing incident that has reignited concerns about women’s safety in Guwahati, a young woman was brutally attacked multiple times in broad daylight near the Adabari bus stand.
The victim has been identified as Kajal Das, an employee at a Hyundai showroom. She was stabbed by a man in the face, neck and hands.
The assault took place in a public area. Meanwhile, Kajal was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police responded swiftly, arresting the attacker, identified as Rajesh Roy, from the scene.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the heinous act. However, this incident has raised serious questions about public safety and security in the city, especially for women.
It needs to be mentioned that, Guwahati was rocked by another gruesome crime earlier, when 26-year-old Assamese actor Mriganka Barman was stabbed to death in Garchuk over a love triangle. The accused, Raju Ali, allegedly confronted Mriganka outside the Hi City Inn Hotel, where a heated argument turned deadly. Despite efforts to save him, Mriganka succumbed to his injuries. Chilling CCTV footage showed him staggering out of the hotel, severely wounded.
Both cases, occurring within days and in broad daylight, reflect a troubling rise in violent personal crimes in Guwahati. Citizens are demanding increased police presence, better surveillance, and swift justice. The city’s image as a safe urban centre for women now stands a little shaken.
