Ind-Pak Tension: Several homes were also damaged during the intense cross-border shelling. The deceased has been identified as Nargis Bashir.

A woman was killed and 4 other civilians were injured amid heavy artillery fire by the Pakistan army along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reported the Indian Express.

Several homes were also damaged during the intense cross-border shelling.

The deceased has been identified as Nargis Bashir.

As per reports, she was killed when a shell struck the vehicle she and her family were using to flee their home in Razarwani village, which had come under heavy fire. The family was attempting to escape the escalating violence when the tragedy occurred.

The Indian Express reported that, the vehicle carrying Nargis Bashir and her family was struck by a shell as it reached Mohura, killing her on the spot and injuring 3 of her relatives. The injured were immediately taken to Government Medical College (GMC) in Baramulla for treatment. In a separate incident, another civilian was injured when a shell landed in Thajal village of Uri.

Officials confirmed that mortar and artillery shells fired from Pakistan penetrated deep into the Uri sector, reaching areas such as Mohura, Gingal, and Rampur. In Gingal alone, at least 10 houses were reported damaged in the shelling.

A resident of Uri said that the artillery shelling from Pakistan began around 11 p.m. on Thursday and continued without pause until 4 a.m. Friday.

“We have not seen such intense fire from across the border in many decades,” he said.

In the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara, officials stated that Pakistan also launched heavy artillery fire, with shells landing deep inside the district.

Mortar and artillery rounds reportedly fell beyond the Sadhna Pass, hitting areas including Manzgam, Kralpora, Chowkibal, and Dollipora.

Notably, Dollipora lies less than 10 kilometers from Kupwara town and over 30 kilometers in a straight line from the Line of Control.

Several homes were damaged in the intense artillery fire, though no additional casualties have been reported.

Cross-border shelling was also reported in other parts of the Kashmir Valley, including the Nowgam sector, further escalating tensions along the Line of Control.

Authorities confirmed that over 60,000 civilians have been displaced from border areas due to the ongoing hostilities. While some have taken refuge with relatives in safer regions, many others have been relocated to government-designated shelter facilities.

On Thursday night, power was cut across the Kashmir Valley as a precautionary blackout after Jammu city came under attack from Pakistani missiles and drones. Electricity supply was restored in Srinagar late that night, and by Friday morning, service had returned to the rest of the valley.

In response to the rising tensions, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced that all schools in the Union Territory would remain closed on Friday and Saturday as a safety measure.
