Winter vacation for schools in Meghalaya extended till Jan 24

In view of the increasing COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, the State Government has decided to extend the winter vacation for schools in the state till January 24. This was informed by the state Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui.

The ongoing winter vacation was supposed over by January 10, but it has now been extended until January 24, said Minister Rymbui.

The winter vacation had started in December before Christmas.

On being asked if the Government would order for closure of schools and colleges since cases are again surging in the state, Minister Rymbui said that the department has issued a notification and the matter is left to the Managing Committees and District administration to take action as and when needed.

When asked if any exercise is being done for the safety of the students, the education minister said that it seems COVID is far ahead of everybody, so in this situation, nobody could help us except ourselves.

Stating that age 15-18 years is a critical age for the students’ community, he urged all the students and their parents to come forward for vaccination.

The Education Minister reiterated that the Government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the students.
