Amid the series of resignations by party leaders just ahead of the Assembly polls in Meghalaya, TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to reach Shillong this afternoon. High on the agenda of the firebrand Bengal CM is her meeting senior party leaders including Mukul Sangma and Charles Pyngrope, interactions with the youth. She would be attending a townhall in the State Central Library and indulge with the children at a pre-Christmas celebration gathering in Shillong.

CM Banerjee is also scheduled to meet party workers of all the 60 Assembly seats and interact with civil society groups and prominent voices of the state.

TMC became the main opposition party in the state in November last year after 12 of the 17 Congress legislators, led by former chief minister Mukul Sangma and Pyngrope, joined the West Bengal-based political party.

In a recent spate of resignations, legislator HM Shangpliang who had quit the Congress to join TMC, had quit TMC to join the BJP.

Three more TMC legislators – Marthon Sangma, Jimmy D Sangma and Shitlang Pale are expected to quit the party later this month. Marthon and Jimmy are expected to seek re-election on NPP (National People’s Party) ticket, while Pale will be joining the United Democratic Party (UDP), the major constituent of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
