Mumbai Police have arrested Vedika Prakash Shetty, the former personal assistant of Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt, on charges of embezzling Rs 76.9 lakh over two years. The funds were allegedly siphoned from Bhatt’s personal accounts and her production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions Private Limited, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
Shetty, 32, had been associated with Bhatt’s company since 2021 and served as the actor’s personal assistant during that period. She was arrested in Bengaluru on Tuesday after evading authorities for several months, reports HT. Following her arrest, she was produced before the Bandra Magistrate Court and remanded to police custody until July 10.
Here’s how Alia Bhatt’s assistant embezzled funds
As per Juhu Police, the case was registered in January based on a complaint filed by Bhatt’s mother, Soni Razdan, said HT. The investigation revealed that Shetty had created and submitted multiple forged invoices—allegedly bearing Bhatt’s signature—to divert funds. These funds were first sent to a friend’s bank account and later transferred to Shetty’s own.
The friend is reportedly cooperating with the investigation and did not retain any of the stolen money. Both individuals are currently being questioned as part of efforts to trace and recover the misappropriated funds.
Who is Vedika Shetty?
Shetty worked closely with Alia Bhatt for over two years, managing both personal and professional responsibilities, including operations at Eternal Sunshine. The production house, founded by Bhatt in 2021, debuted with Darlings, a Netflix release starring Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew.
