Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has emerged as the highest tax-paying celebrity in India for the financial year 2023-24. According to a list published by Fortune India in September, Shah Rukh topped the chart with a staggering Rs. 92 crore paid in taxes.

His closest competitor was Tamil cinema’s Thalapathy Vijay, who contributed Rs. 80 crore. Other notable names on the list include Salman Khan (Rs. 75 crore), Amitabh Bachchan (Rs. 71 crore), and cricket icon Virat Kohli (Rs. 66 crore). Among female celebrities, Kareena Kapoor ranked highest, paying Rs. 20 crore in taxes.

The figures reflect advance tax payments for the year, underscoring the phenomenal success these celebrities enjoyed. Shah Rukh Khan had an exceptional 2023 with three major releases. Pathaan grossed over Rs. 1,000 crore globally, while Jawan went a step further, earning Rs. 1,150 crore. Although Dunki earned a relatively modest Rs. 400 crore, Shah Rukh’s profit-sharing deals propelled his earnings to record-breaking levels, making him the highest-paid actor in India after nearly a decade.

Vijay, on the other hand, delivered a massive hit with The Greatest of All Time, which earned Rs. 600 crore. The Tamil star reportedly received over Rs. 200 crore for the project, securing his position as the second-highest tax-paying celebrity.

While Bollywood and Kollywood dominated the top ranks, the impressive contributions from stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan highlight the financial clout of India’s entertainment industry. Kohli’s inclusion also reflects the lucrative endorsement deals and earnings of India’s top sports personalities.
