Who is Namrata Borah? Who called her at 1:30AM? Why was she asked to step out in the dead of night? Why did Anayatul Wadud, AIUDF youth wing leader and son of AIUDF’s Bilashipara MLA and another lady ‘flee’ after the accident leaving Namrata in the car?

These are some of the questions which are now being asked after the tragic death of 26-year-old Namrata Borah on June 4, 2025, near Nongpoh, Meghalaya.

What was initially being seen as just a road accident has now taken a serious and suspicious turn after her father, Ramen Kumar Borah, lodged a detailed First Information Report (FIR) at Dispur Police Station, demanding a thorough probe into what he calls an “unusual and possibly pre-planned” incident.

Namrata, a resident of Dhodang in Assam’s Golaghat district, was living in Guwahati’s Rukminigaon in a rented room. Her father stated that she left her room at 1:30 AM on June 3 without informing either her roommates or family which is very unlike her. What is more disturbing is that she left her mobile phone behind, something she would never part with unless she was rushed or forcefully taken suggesting coercion.

Namrata was accompanied by five individuals during the trip, including Anayatul Wadud, who was allegedly driving the car. Others present were Mriganka Boruah, Pragya Dihingia, and Gayatri Borah.

The accident occurred around 5:30 AM near Nongpoh. While Mriganka and Pragya rushed Namrata to the hospital, she was declared dead on arrival. Shockingly, none of them informed the police. It was the hospital staff who alerted law enforcement. Even more suspicious is that, Anayatul and Gayatri allegedly fled the scene, with Anayatul later trying to falsely identify someone else as the driver.

Borah now fears his daughter’s death was no mere accident. He believes the inconsistencies in the companions’ actions and the suspicious timeline indicate a larger, deliberate plot.

As investigations by the Meghalaya and Assam police continue, Namrata Borah’s death raises pressing questions not just for a grieving family, but for society and law enforcement. Was this truly an accident, or murder?
