Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and TMC leader Mukul Sangma has flayed the MDA government’s role in dealing with illegal coal mining. Talking to Northeast Live, Mukul Sangma has questioned the government over the disappearance of over 1 lakh metric tonne of coal without any cess, revenue.

Mukul Sangma questioned the government if any probe has been initiated into the matter. According to Mukul Sangma the Conrad Sangma government is behaving abnormally at this juncture when the Lokayukta has taken strong cognizance of his complaint on curbing the menace.

 Mukul Sangma affirmed that anybody who goes against the interest of the state must be prosecuted.

Sangma’s reaction comes at a time when the Meghalaya High Court has taken Suo Moto cognizance of the issue and has asked the govt to comply with the rulings of the Supreme Court of India and the National Green Tribunal regarding the mining of coal in Meghalaya.
