We are not going to sit in our homes: Pradyot Debbarma hints at renewed agitation against CAA

Pradyot hinted towards reviving protest across the state like earlier, if deemed necessary, in order to protect the interest and rights of the indigenous population.

At a time when the Opposition in Tripura is seemingly mounting pressure on Pradyot Debbarma over the implementation of the contentious CAA, the TIPRA Motha chief has reiterated about his stand on the issue.

Days after Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman targeted TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Debbarma for allegedly maintaining silence on the implementation of CAA in the state, the latter in an audio message to his supporters, has once again stated that his case against CAA is still pending in the Supreme Court.

He also hinted towards reviving protest across the state like earlier, if deemed necessary, in order to protect the interest and rights of the indigenous population.

Pradyot said, “After looking into the date of the case, after taking legal opinion I will be coming to Agartala. Following this, if we have to take any step constitutionally, legally or politically to safeguard the indigenous Tiprasas, than we will explore all the avenues. We are not going to sit in our homes. If we have to secure the next generation, than we have to legally, constitutionally protect ourselves on every ground. Because we are already minorities in our own land. The Act which the Government of India has introduced, I am fighting a case against that in the Supreme Court. We are fighting constitutionally and legally.”

Making a direct attack on Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman, Debbarma said that leaders like the former will sell the indigenous cause in a moment.

“The truth is always true and a lie is always a lie. These people have no sense of committment, whatever they are speaking let them do it. Bubagra will sacrifice his life for the Tiprasas and will never compromise on the issue. Wait for June 4, we have to see what will happen. After that we will take the decision. People like Sudip Roy Barman will sell Tiprasas within a minute or two, and will join the government if they find the slightest oppurtunity. We will fight with intelligence and according to our position of strength. These people have the habit of ‘use and throw’,” Pradyot said.

On May 21, TIPRA Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma today made it amply clear that his party will not allow implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Taking potshots, Pradyot alleged that the Congress only considers the indigenous Tiprasas merely as a vote bank and nothing else.

Earlier, Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman in a sharp attack alleged that Pradyot Debbarma was asked to keep silent by the BJP. If that was not all, Sudip Roy Barman accused the BJP of “purchasing” Pradyot Debbarma.
