Voting underway in 11 polling stations of Manipur

Security measures have been intensified to prevent any incidents of violence.

Repolling is currently going on at 11 polling stations for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency in Imphal East and Imphal West today.

Repoll in these polling stations were necessitated after incidents of firing, clashes and vandalism was reported during the 1st phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 19.

Voting began today at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

The affected polling stations where repolling is underway include Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao, one in Thongju in Imphal East district, and three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam in Imphal West district.

Security measures have been intensified to prevent any incidents of violence.

Earlier on Friday, polling in Manipur witnessed several violent incidents, including gunfire, clashes, intimidation, and destruction of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Polling was held for all the 32 assembly segments of Inner Manipur parliamentary seat on April 19.

The turnout for the two Lok Sabha constituencies – Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur – was recorded at 72 percent despite the disturbances.
