Virat Kohli created history in the third ODI against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra as he went past 12000 runs in grand style. Kohli achieved the feat in his 242nd innings, which is 58 innings quicker than Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar had achieved the record of 12000 runs in his 300th ODI innings but Virat Kohli’s brilliance is such that he has managed to cross 12000 in under 250 innings and it is a testament to his average in ODIs currently, which is just under 60. Virat Kohli’s landmark of 12000 runs is another addition to his massive compilation of records.

Virat Kohli reached the landmark when he tapped Sean Abbott to mid off and took off for a quick single. Virat Kohli became the sixth player after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene.

Virat Kohli has 43 ODI hundreds and he is just nine runs away from breaking the record of 51 centuries scored by Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli also has nine centuries in Australia across all formats combined and it is the most by any overseas player Down Under. The Indian cricket team skipper also has 26 centuries while chasing. India have lost very few games whenever Virat Kohli has scored a century.

One of those losses was in Canberra in 2016 when he scored a century but India suffered a dramatic collapse.
