The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has ordered an inquiry into alleged suspicious activities of outside vendors in the department of Cardiology in NEIGRIHMS.

The move came after the vigilance division of the ministry received a letter from the premier health institute requesting to investigate the matter. The letter also stated that suspicious persons were noticed moving in restricted areas without prior approval of the Medical Superintendent.

The ministry has constituted a committee to examine the veracity of the allegations which will submit its report within two weeks.

Earlier, outgoing NEIGRIHMS Director Dr DM Thappa had alleged that the Union Health Ministry had been misled over the state of affairs in NEIGRIHMS where an implant mafia is operating.

Dr Thappa alleged that he had received several complaints of malpractices in the Cardiology department soon after he took charge in NEIGRIHMS. Dr Thappa also claimed that several equipment’s were reused in the department which is absolutely unethical.
