One of the five under-trial prisoners who had escaped from Morigaon District Jail in Assam on the night of Oct 11 has been nabbed in Andhra Pradesh.

Md. Jiyarul Islam (23), a resident of Missamari in Sonitpur district, was apprehended on Saturday night. He is presently at the Sullurupeta Police Station.

Morigaon Police Station SI Anupam Boruah is leading a team of Morigaon Police who has left for Andhra Pradesh to bring back the apprehended prisoner.

Among the five under-trial prisoners, two have been arrested while two are still on the run.

On the other hand, the body of the fifth prisoner, Abdul Rashid, was recovered from a pond in Lahorighat on Oct 14.

Notably, the under-trial prisoners had escaped the prison by first breaking the rods of the barracks and then crossing the 50-foot jail wall with the help of blankets, lungis and bed sheets.

All five prisoners were booked under the POSCO Act in separate cases and faced trial when they made the daring, Bollywood movie-like jailbreak.
