The missing women have been identified as Leela Devi from Tinsukia and Manju Devi Agarwal from Baihata Chariali.
After the death of a businessman from Assam’s Hailakandi district in the tragic stampede in Prayagraj, two woman devotees, one from Biswanath Chariali and another from Tinsukia have gone missing at the Maha Kumbh. They have been reported missing since yesterday afternoon.
The missing women have been identified as Leela Devi from Tinsukia and Manju Devi Agarwal from Baihata Chariali. Both had traveled to Prayagraj with their families to take part in the sacred bathing ritual at the banks of the Ganga River.
Leela Devi, who arrived at the Maha Kumbh with her family, was last seen on the riverbank during the holy dip. Her sudden disappearance triggered a frantic search by her family, but she remains untraceable. Deeply concerned about her safety, her family has appealed to the public for help and shared contact numbers for any information: 8472900833 or 9435562222.
On the other hand, Manju Devi Agarwal, who reached Prayagraj on 27 January, was accompanied by her husband, children, and in-laws. The family was performing their rituals when a moment of chaos ensued and Manju’s granddaughter suddenly went missing in the massive crowd.
In a desperate effort to locate the child, family members split up to search. Thankfully, the young girl was found after a short while. However, when the family returned to the spot, Manju Devi was missing.
Her youngest son, who lives in Biswanath Chariali, recounted the heart-wrenching incident: “My father and mother went to the Maha Kumbh with my wife, children, and in-laws. They arrived in Prayagraj yesterday, and after reaching the riverbank, my daughter went missing. My wife and other family members searched for her, and they found her after some time. But when they returned to the spot where they had left my mother, she was no longer there.”
Manju Devi’s disappearance is particularly concerning as she is a diabetic patient who requires regular insulin. Her family, growing increasingly anxious, has sought help from local authorities. Officials have begun making public announcements over loudspeakers and intensifying search efforts.
Both families are in a state of distress, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones. Authorities continue to search the area, urging anyone with information to step forward.
Those with any details about the missing women can contact Manju Devi’s family at +91-7637010291 or +91-9864062000, and Leela Devi’s family at 8472900833 or 9435562222.
As the Maha Kumbh continues to witness massive crowds, the search for the missing women remains a top priority. Their families remain hopeful that they will soon be reunited with their loved ones.
