In a major crackdown on wildlife smuggling in Assam, Dibrugarh Police on Thursday arrested two smugglers from Panchali area in Dibrugarh town and recovered a rhino horn, an elephant tusk along with other contraband item from their possession.

The duo has been identified as Miraz Khan and Anish Rahman. The items were recovered from the residence of Miraz Khan in Panchali under Dibrugarh Police station.

On searching the police team recovered one rhino horn, one small elephant tusk, 19 gm of drugs in a container suspected to be heroin and Rupees 1,30,500 in cash and two mobile handsets.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra informed further interrogations are underway. As per sources both Khan and Rahman were involved in drug trafficking and deals with illegal smuggling of animal parts.
