Two back-to-back earthquakes rock Manipur. No damage reported

The epicentre of the earthquake was Churachandpur in Manipur which is around 62 KM from the capital city Imphal.

The Northeastern state of Manipur was rocked by two earthquakes in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to National Center for Seismology, which is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activities in the country, the first earthquake was recorded at 1:54 AM and was of magnitude 5.2 in the Richter scale.The epicentre of the earthquake was Churachandpur in Manipur which is around 62 KM from the capital city Imphal. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 40 KM beneath the surface.

The second earthquake was recorded within less than an hour at 2:26 AM. This time the epicentre of the earthquake was Noney in Manipur which is around 94 KM North of Curachandpur and around 64 KM from capital city Imphal. The magnitude of the earthquake was 2.5 in the Richter scale and it occurred at a depth of 25 KM beneath the surface.

The shockwaves of both the earthquakes were also felt in the adjoining areas. However, no damage or injuries were reported in both the quakes.
