The entire Phek District BJP unit, led by Er. Vekho Swuro, quitting the party on January 14 to join the NDPP.

Is the BJP in Nagaland facing a crisis? Why are district-level party workers and members deserting the party?

The situation has become critical, with the entire Phek District BJP unit, led by Er. Vekho Swuro, quitting the party on January 14 to join the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

In a dramatic show of defection, around 2,000 party workers from all the Morchas under Phek district joined the NDPP in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs K.G. Kenye.

In December 2024, BJP Spokesperson Ngampa Konyak resigned, followed by the mass resignation of the 47 Aboi Assembly Constituency Mandal President, along with thousands of party workers and office bearers.

Discontent is brewing across Nagaland, with many grassroots leaders unhappy with how the party is being managed.

Leaders who have resigned from the party informed Northeast Live that the party workers are not happy with the functioning of the party at the district and mandal level.

Several leaders have expressed their displeasure over the appointment of District and Mandal Presidents, allegedly without consultation with party workers.

Party workers from the Longleng Assembly constituency have also expressed their displeasure over the appointment of local President.

The Longleng party workers have declared non-cooperation towards the District President untill the matter is resolved.
