Tripura: Woman dies in sleep after mud wall collapses on her

In a heart breaking incident, a woman died in her sleep after the mud wall of her house collapsed and fell on her. The incident took place in the wee hours of today at Ghilatali village under Kalyanpur in Khowai district of Tripura.

The wall collapsed due to incessant rain. The deceased has been identified as Sabitri Sarkar (58). Murari Sarkar, the victim’s husband, said that he heard a loud sound at around 3 AM. When he went out he found the mud wall had fallen and under the rubble his wife was trapped.

He said that immediately he cried out for help and along with their son he managed to rescue his wife from the debris and swiftly rushed her to Teliamura hospital.

Unfortunately, her injuries were severe, and despite immediate medical attention, she could not be saved.

The calamity also resulted in the unfortunate demise of several goats and fowls that were trapped under the debris.

Tapash Malakar, a police official, mentioned that they received information about the incident around 6 AM and acted promptly to assist the injured.

Pinaki Das Chowdhury, the local MLA, visited the grieving family to extend his condolences and assured them of support from the government. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by communities during heavy rainfall and the importance of adequate infrastructure to ensure safety.
