Police from the Bishalgarh Women Police Station rescued the victim after receiving information about the attack and ensured her safety.
In a disturbing incident, a woman from the Lalsinghmura area in Bishalgarh, Tripura’s Sepahijala district, was allegedly assaulted and had her head partially shaved by a group of women on Thursday.
Police from the Bishalgarh Women Police Station rescued the victim after receiving information about the attack and ensured her safety. The initial inquiry suggests the assault stemmed from a financial dispute involving money borrowed from a local Self-Help Group (SHG).
Inspector Shiuli Das, in charge of Bishalgarh Women Police Station and leading the investigation, revealed that the victim accused members of the SHG of carrying out the attack.
“The victim alleged that a group of women assaulted her and shaved half of her head. The incident appears to be linked to a financial dispute over money borrowed by her husband. We are conducting a detailed investigation to uncover the facts,” Inspector Das said while speaking to reporters.
Recounting her traumatic ordeal, the victim said that around 15-20 women barged into her home while she was in the kitchen. After briefly questioning her travel plans, the group dragged her outside, rebuked her, assaulted her, and forcibly shaved part of her head.
“My husband was not at home, and my sister-in-law was in the kitchen at the time. A few men were watching nearby, but none of them intervened,” the woman stated. She added that the attackers demanded an immediate repayment of money borrowed by her husband from the SHG, which led to the violent act.
The police have registered a suo motu case against 20-21 individuals under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
