Tripura: Teachers on Deputation to SDM Office Found Drinking Inside Office Room

SDM Tridip Sarkar, who was outside the office at the time, immediately directed an official to enquire the matter.
A shocking incident unfolded in broad daylight at the election section of the Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office, where officials were consuming liquor inside the office on Friday afternoon in Tripura’s Udaipur under Gomati district.
Acting on a tip-off, a group of local journalists entered the electoral registration section of the office, only to find teachers (on deputation from the Education Department) and a data entry operator engaged in an unapproved “refreshment break.”
As soon as the officials spotted the journalists, panic ensued, but the damage was already done.
SDM Tridip Sarkar, who was outside the office at the time, immediately directed an official to enquire the matter.
Later, speaking to reporters, the SDM confirmed that notices had been served to the guilty officials, assuring that disciplinary action would follow.
“I was in the field but had directed the additional SDM to enquire the matter and he had submitted a detailed report to me and as per government rule we shall take action. We always monitor all sections so that we can provide proper service to the public. This is not the kind of spirits we encourage in government offices,” he stated that strict action would be taken against the three to four individuals involved in the incident.
However, Sarkar clarified that those caught consuming liquor inside the SDM office were not permanent staff but officials on deputation.
He added that the matter would be reported to their respective departments, including the Education Department, as some of them were teachers.
Block Level Officer (BLO) Lakhan Sarkar was among those caught consuming liquor inside the SDM office, and he admitted to his actions.
While Tripura’s administration ensures smooth elections, it seems some officials were more interested in polling their glasses!
