The incident came to light on Tuesday, July 4, after police visited Asish Saha’s residence and exhumed the mortal remains of his mother.

On receiving information that a woman was allegedly buried inside her room by her son at Tantipara after her death, a team of AD Nagar police, accompanied by a forensic team and a magistrate visited the scene and exhumed the mortal remains in the presence of locals,” said SDPO (sub-divisional police officer) Amtali, Asish Dasgupta.

Police arrested Asish Saha in connection with with the case, and during interogation, he confessed that he had buried her body iside their living room as it was his mother’s last wish.

Asish said that his mother had asked him, before her death, to keep her body next to the altar in their room so that she and God could protect their house. Therefore, he buried her body to prevent the foul smell from spreading.
