Meantime, no formal complaint has been filed yet by Assistant Professor Das.
In a horrific incident reported from Tripura, an Assistant Professor named Alok Das was kicked, punched and abused by students and families of students for his alleged negligence that apparently did not allow 12 students to take a scheduled examination.
Tension ran high at the Longtarai Valley Degree College in Tripura’s Dhalai district, as angry and agitated students on Thursday locked the college gates and gheraoed the principal, demanding answers for the administrative lapse that reportedly prevented the students from sitting for their exams.
The situation took a turn for the worse when Assistant Professor Das reached the college. The students immediately physically assaulted him, kicking and punching him and hurling him with abuses leaving him physically and mentally bruised.
It is still, however, not clear if Assistant Professor Das is really to be blamed for the 12 students not being able to sit for the exams because, reportedly the college authorities failed to distribute admit cards on time and clear the exam schedules.
According to a source in the Dhalai District Superintendent of Police office, an investigation is underway but no arrests have been made so far.
Meantime, no formal complaint has been filed yet by Assistant Professor Das.
The college administration, on the other hand, has drawn sharp criticism for its silence, with neither the principal nor the governing body issuing a detailed statement.
The police too has come under fire as the entire incident apparently happened in full view of police personnel who allegedly failed to intervene effectively.
