Tripura MP Rajib Bhattacharjee Visits Flood-Hit Belonia; Promises Permanent Solution to Annual Crisis

Bhattacharjee’s visit comes at a time when concerns are rising over the region's vulnerability to flash floods.

Tripura BJP state president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee on Thursday visited several flood-affected areas in South Tripura’s Belonia subdivision, including the worst-hit Amzadnagar and nearby localities.

Bhattacharjee was accompanied by South Tripura District Magistrate Md Sajjad P and senior administrative officials during his visit. He interacted with flood victims taking shelter in relief camps set up across Belonia and assured them of all necessary support from the state government.

The MP personally reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the area. He stressed the need for a lasting solution to the repeated flood problem in Amzadnagar and surrounding areas.

“This has become an annual crisis for the people of this region. The district administration has already sent a proposal for a permanent solution. After returning to Agartala, I will meet Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and give him a full report on the situation. Our government will take up this matter seriously and work on a permanent resolution to this long-standing issue,” Bhattacharjee told reporters after the visit.

Local authorities have launched temporary relief operations, including the distribution of food, clean drinking water, and medical help. However, many residents living in low-lying areas continue to suffer as water levels remain dangerously high in several places due to nonstop rainfall over the past three days.

Bhattacharjee’s visit comes at a time when concerns are rising over the region’s vulnerability to flash floods. Year after year, people in Belonia face repeated damage to homes, roads, and farmland, which causes severe economic loss and disrupts daily life.
