Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday announced additional funds for the flood affected people in the state.

In addition to the previously sanctioned Rs 2 crore, an additional Rs 10 crore will be allocated from the CMRF for flood relief, the Chief Minister announced on Tuesday.

Taking to X, CM Saha said, “Enhancing Support for flood-affected people & Areas! In addition to previous sanctioned amount of Rs 2.0 crore, we are allocating Rs. 10 crore from Chief Minister’s Relief fund, which will be utilised for providing relief to the people affected by the floods in different parts of the State.”

This substantial increase in funding aims to provide comprehensive support and relief to the people and regions impacted by the devastating floods.

In the aftermath of the floods in the state, individuals and organisations from various sectors–including banks, social organisations, and other groups–have stepped forward to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

According to official data released on August 30, the state government has so far received more than Rs 93.23 crores out of which the state government of Madhya Pradesh gave Rs 15 crores, the government of Uttar Pradesh gave Rs 20 crores, the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath gave Rs 10 crores from his relief fund, the government of Chhattishgarh gave Rs 15 crore and the governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam gave Rs 5 crores each.

The two MPs of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb and Kriti Singh Debbarma gave Rs 1 crore each from their MPLAD fund. Apart from this, most of the elected representatives including MLAs and ministers of BJP and even chief minister Manik Saha personally donated to the relief fund.

In the first installment of aid the Centre had given Tripura a disaster relief fund of Rs 40 crores but the amount will increase with higher grants once the report of the central survey team is submitted to Centre with assessment of damages and recommendations of quantum of assistance. However , the contributions from fraternal state governments, individuals, institutions , business houses and leaders may not be enough to cope with the relief work as, according to state government’s own estimates, the loss stands at a whopping Rs 15,000 crore.

Following continuous rainfall and unprecedented floods since August 19 in the state, 31 people have lost their lives, and over 72,000 people have been displaced so far, according to a press release by the State Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department.

As per a government statement, a total of 492 relief camps had been set up by the district administration, providing shelter to the people displaced by the floods. Clothing has also been distributed to about 300 needy people in the Amarpur and Karbook sub-divisions.
