Tripura government gears up to fight Covid, issues new guidelines

As the COVID infections are spreading like wildfire in Tripura and with the overall state’s positivity rate at 10.72 percent, the state government has decided to tighten the COVID restrictions.
As the COVID infections are spreading like wildfire in Tripura and with the overall state’s positivity rate at 10.72 percent, the state government has decided to tighten the COVID restrictions.
With this aim, it was announced that the authorities would be shutting down all shopping malls, cinema halls, public parks, picnic spots, and fairs.
Apart from that, the curfew hours have also been increased, with the night curfew now set to begin from 8 pm onwards instead of 9 pm.
The new restrictions will come into effect from January 20 onwards. This was announced by Tripura cabinet minister Sushanta Chowdhury at a press conference following a cabinet meeting yesterday evening.

Chowdhury also said that since the state capital, Agartala, has the highest positivity rate in the state with 23.15 percent, the government has decided to run all offices with 50 percent staff and those below joint secretary.
He also said that schools have been closed due to the COVID scenario. Chowdhury also said that during the last week there have been 14 reported deaths due to COVID and, at present, there are 6,491 active cases in Tripura, with the highest number of cases in the West Tripura district.
Chowdhury also stated that 91% of the over-18 years are currently vaccinated and that a three-day special vaccination drive will be launched on January 19 in 734 schools across the state to cover a total of 2.13 lakh students, of whom 90,251 have already been inoculated with the first dose.
