Tripura gears up for vaccinating 2.13 lakhs teenagers between 15 & 18 years

With the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive set to start from January 3, Tripura has geared up to inoculate the young adults between the age group of 15 to 18 years as per the new guidelines.

National Health Mission Director Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal said that the State government has set up a total of 354 special vaccinations centres for vaccinating 2.13 lakh children between the age group of 15 to 18 years.

Jaiswal said that as many as 4 lakh eligible people in the State have not taken the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. He said that the remaining 18 percent eligible beneficiaries who are not showing up at the vaccination centres for the second dose are being traced through health teams and telephone calls to ensure that they get their prescribed dose.

He also appealed to the people to participate in the drive and to get inoculated in time on account of the emergence of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Assam is all set to start its fresh vaccine drive for 13-15-year-olds from January 3 onwards.

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that vaccine drives will be conducted in all colleges and schools in the state for people within the 15 to 18-year age category. Mahanta stated that the government hopes to complete the vaccination drive by January 9.

Notably, vaccinations for 15 to 18-year-olds in Sikkim is also scheduled to start from the 3rd of January using Covaxin. Booster doses for healthcare workers, frontline warriors, and people aged 60 and above with co-morbidities will begin from the 10th of January.
