Tripura: Free and fair conduct of election witnessed this time in the state: CM Manik Saha

A crucial meeting of all 55 candidates of BJP contesting for assembly elections was held on February 24.
Chief Minister Manik Saha terming the recent polls peaceful said, “In Tripura’s history, this is the first time the assembly polls have been conducted in most peaceful and violence free. Further, he also assured that the counting of votes will be peaceful. Further, he added that other than reviewing the polls discussion shall also hold no peaceful counting of the ballots and maintaining law and order after the results across the state.
Along with Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma, senior BJP leaders and in-charge for Tripura including Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Mahindra Singh, Phanindranath Sharma, and others participated in the meeting during which they reviewed the polling process and the likely results of it on March 2 when the counting of ballots is scheduled.
They also discussed various issues including how the voting process could be improved and the future role of the party in ensuring better results.
Around 92 percent of the total 28.14 lakh voters have exercised their franchise.
In the 60 seats assembly, BJP is contesting from 55 while five seats have been given to its ally IPFT.
The main contest of the BJP alliance is with the Congress-Left Front alliance besides the newly formed TIPRA Motha Party led by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma which has a strong hold in 20 ST reserved seats.
In all, 259 candidates, including 31 women, are in the fray for the election to the 60-member house.
Except for five incidents, the voting across the state was 100 percent peaceful and six people were arrested in connection with these incidents.
