Tripura Floods: Pradyot Debbarma Blames Consecutive State Govts for Plight of People, Says He will Do His Best to Imporve Situation

Debbarma pointed out that he was the first to reach the flood-affected families with relief materials, even before the administration could arrive.

Royal scion and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has sharply criticized consecutive state governments under various political parties for their failure to construct roads and provide essential basic facilities, especially to those living in remote areas of Tripura, even after more than 75 years of India’s Independence.

During his visit to the flood-affected Chintarampara area of Magroom, under the Sabroom sub-division in South Tripura district, Debbarma expressed his concerns over the government’s negligence.

He visited the area on Sunday to offer relief to the affected families. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to the families who lost loved ones in the recent floods from his own account.

Debbarma was accompanied by several officials, including the local Block Development Officer (BDO), Additional District Magistrate (ADM), and an engineer, as well as party leaders, Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma and former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma.

During his visit, Debbarma pointed out that he was the first to reach the flood-affected families with relief materials, even before the administration could arrive.

He highlighted that large parts of the road connectivity in the area had been washed away or destroyed, making it difficult for the administration to provide immediate assistance.

“The government has failed to ensure basic facilities like proper roads, education, drinking water, and employment opportunities,” Debbarma said.

“These issues are only raised during election campaigns, and then they are forgotten,” he added.
He further emphasized that the relief materials, drinking water, and financial assistance he provided were only temporary measures and urged the government to develop a long-term plan to address the needs of the population, which largely comprises indigenous communities.

“It is a tough challenge,” Debbarma acknowledged, “but I will do my best to bring some positive change in the lives of the people of Tripura.”

Debbarma also announced his intention to raise these concerns personally with Chief Minister Manik Saha in an upcoming meeting, stressing the need for urgent action to improve the living standards of people in the far-flung areas of Tripura.
