Tripura: District Election Officer outlines home voting procedure for PWD, elder voters

Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Puneet Aggarwal, gave out details about the preparedness of the state for the upcoming elections on Saturday.
The CEO said that the purpose of home voting in the state is to make the election process more inclusive. A total of 4580 people under Tripura West have opted for home voting, while 4760 people have opted for home voting under Tripura East.
Meanwhile State District Election Officer Vishal Kumar informed that from April 9th, PWD will collect postal ballot votes from voters and people aged 85 years and above.
Kumar highlighted the meticulous preparation involved, including compiling a list of voters aged 85 and above, and persons with disabilities (PwD).
“The Election Commission of India has the motto that every vote matters. The team has also been trained for it and we are also getting the support from the political parties. In the 30 assembly constituencies, there are around 5000 such voters who have opted for the home voting. The home voting will be conducted on April 9, 10 and 12”, Vishal Kumar said.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced ‘vote-from-home’ facilities for citizens over 85 years of age and persons with disabilities for the Lok Sabha elections.
The commission said that voters above 85 years of age and persons with disabilities with a 40 percent benchmark disability can vote from home. The commission said that at polling stations, volunteers and wheelchairs will be deployed and transport facilities for persons with disabilities and the elderly will be arranged.
