Tripura: Class 10 and Class 12 results out, girls outshine boys in Class 10 exams

The pass percentage for Madhyamik (Class 10) exam stands at 87.54% and the pass percentage for Higher Secondary exam stands at 79.27%.

The Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) announced the results for the Madhyamik (Class 10) and Higher Secondary (Class 12) examinations today.

Speaking to Northeast Live at the TBSE headquarters in Gorkhabasti, Board President Dr. Dhananjoy Gan Choudhury informed that 33,729 candidates appeared for the Madhyamik exams across 1,083 schools out of which 29,534 students passed the exams. The pass percentage for male candidates was 87.2%, and for female candidates, it was 87.9%.

In the Higher Secondary exams, 25,350 students from 408 schools appeared for the examination out of which 20,095 students passed the exams. The pass percentage was 78.9% for males and 79.6% for females.

While the class 10 results saw a slight improvement from last year’s 86%, the Higher Secondary results showed a decline from the previous year’s 83.24%.

This continues the downward trend in Higher Secondary pass percentage over the past two years, dropping from 94.46% in 2022.

TBSE president Dr. Gan Choudhury highlighted that 310 schools achieved a 100% pass percentage in the Madhyamik exams, while 16 schools had a zero pass percentage.

In the Higher Secondary examination, all students of 39 schools passed, while 13 schools saw a zero pass percentage.

In the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) areas, the pass percentages were 85.01% for Madhyamik and 70.57% for Higher Secondary.

Dr. Gan Choudhury stated that the overall results of the TBSE were better than expected, particularly given the transfer of 125 top-grade schools to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the Vidyajyoti initiative in 2022.

This year, the first batch of CBSE-affiliated schools had roughly 61% pass in the Class 10 board examinations and 55% in the Higher Secondary exams, prompting criticism over the government’s policy due to a high number of compartmental results.

The state board exams faced controversies this year, particularly concerning the script choice for Kokborok examinations. After multiple changes, the state government decided the exams would be conducted in both Bengali and Roman scripts.

When asked about the Kokborok script issue, Dr. Gan Choudhury stated that the board follows government directives.

He also acknowledged a shortage of qualified teachers and infrastructure in the state but refrained from commenting on the poor results in the 125 schools shifted to CBSE under the Vidyajyoti scheme.
