Hundreds of contractors, working under the Tripura State Electricity Corporation, have yet again called out the Managing Director, Dr Murhari S Kele, for not paying their dues, amounting to several

Hundreds of contractors, working under the Tripura State Electricity Corporation, have yet again called out the Managing Director, Dr Murhari S Kele, for not paying their dues, amounting to several hundred crores of rupees. Reportedly, the contractors had also paid huge amounts in bribes for their pending bills to be released.

The contractors gathered at the Agartala head office in the Bhutaria Chowmhuni area on Saturday. The agitating contractors alleged that massive corruption took place under the MD, who deprived the local contractors and favoured outsiders by illegally assigning them work. This goes against the commission.

One of the agitating contractors, Shyamal Bhattacharjee, alleged that he was compelled to pay Rs 25 lakh to the MD with the assurance of getting his pending bill. Bhattacharjee also alleged that even after being the lowest bidder, a contract was cancelled and illegally given to a non-local contractor.

Earlier as well, the contractors had agitated against the MD on the same ground, but with assurances that the pending bills would be released, they withdrew the agitation. Meanwhile, when contacted by TSECL, none of the TSEL were ready to speak on the issue.
