A student of Kamalachhara High School, Romio studied alongside other regular students and never missed classes.

In an inspiring tale of determination and courage, Romio Hrangkhawl, a differently-abled student from Kamalachhara village under Ambassa subdivision in Tripura’s Dhalai district, has cleared the Madhyamik (Class 10) examination conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). Romio, who cannot use his hands due to a locomotor disability, wrote his exams using his toes.

Born with a severe disability that left both his hands non-functional, along with skeletal issues and speech difficulties, Romio started using his feet to write from a young age. Undeterred by physical challenges and societal barriers, he pursued his education with remarkable focus and strength.

A student of Kamalachhara High School, Romio studied alongside other regular students and never missed classes. He used to sit on the bench like everyone else and write with his toes, showing incredible patience and dedication. Despite all odds, he passed the exams, earning widespread praise and admiration.

His father, Hariram Hrangkhawl, played an important role in Romio’s educational journey. He stood by his son every step of the way and ensured he continued going to school. Speaking to the media, Hariram said, “He has always been focused on his studies, no matter how difficult things were. His next goal is to go for higher education, but our poor financial condition will make it tough.”

Romio’s achievement has touched the hearts of many, from local villagers to state leaders. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha called Romio a “beacon of inspiration” and praised his strong will. “Romio Hrangkhawl’s story shows us how courage and determination can overcome even the toughest challenges. I congratulate him and also thank his teachers and family who supported him,” he posted on X.

The headmistress of Kamalachhara High School, Anjana Chakma, expressed her joy and pride. “We were confident that Romio would pass. When we got the result, we were overwhelmed. He regularly attended school and used to write with his toes while sitting on the bench. He is truly a symbol of perseverance,” she said.

Romio’s journey is not just about academic success. It is a powerful reminder of human resilience and the role of education in changing lives. His story will continue to inspire students and families across the state to rise above difficulties and chase their dreams.
