Devotees gather for the emotional immersion ceremony, bidding farewell to the goddess with prayers and vibrant processions.

A wave of sadness swept across Tripura as Mahadashami, the last day of Durga Puja was celebrated on Saturday. This final day marks the goddess’s departure from her earthly visit as she returns to Mount Kailash, ending the festive celebrations for another year.

The immersion ceremonies, a key part of the last day, began in the afternoon with colorful processions. Devotees, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums and trumpets, carried idols of Goddess Durga towards the rivers and water bodies for the final immersion ritual.

In Agartala, the Dasami Ghat along the Howrah River serves as one of the main immersion points. The ceremony symbolizes the conclusion of the goddess’s visit to her maternal home, as she returns to her celestial abode with Lord Shiva in Kailash.

To ensure a smooth and safe immersion, the city police and civic authorities made elaborate security arrangements at various ghats. Volunteers from the Agartala Municipal Corporation, alongside cranes, were deployed to manage the event and reduce the risk of accidents during the immersion process.

In an effort to protect the environment, the Agartala Municipal Corporation also implemented eco-friendly measures to minimize pollution in the Howrah River. Volunteers were tasked with ensuring the immersion was conducted in a sustainable manner.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been stationed at immersion sites to handle emergencies and provide immediate assistance if needed.

As the evening unfolds, Tripura will say its final farewells to the goddess, with devotees offering prayers for her safe return next year.
