In a bid to promote indigenous films, Arunachal Pradesh is hosting a 2-day International Tribal Film Festival at Dirang village in the West Kameng district.

The two-day festival kick-started on Saturday. During the two-day festival movies in different languages will be screened.

The festival was inaugurated by Advisor to Minister of Information and Public Relation Laisam Simai and Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering.

Inaugurating the festival, Simai said that the government is committed to making Arunachal a potential destination for filmmaking.

The film festival will showcase films and documentaries relating to tribal art and culture.

The festival is being organized by the Department of Information & Public Relations of Arunachal Pradesh in association with the Ministry of broadcasting and information.

The movies are being screened at Picturetime’s mobile digital movie theatre.

Panel discussions on the importance of tribal films will also be held during the festival.

National Award-winning Khasi film ‘Onataah’, acclaimed bilingual Manipuri film ‘Nine Hills One Valley’, Assamese film ‘Semkhor’ in Dimasa language, ‘Crossing Bridges’, which won the National Film Award for best film in Shertukpen language in 2013, and ‘Ma.Ama’, the first Garo movie to win a National Award, are among the movies to be screened at the festival.
