Reportedly, a total of seven workers were engaged in building a box culvert when the tragic incident occurred.

In a tragic accident, a construction worker died while two others sustained injuries when a landslide occurred at a worksite in Induria, Sonamura, under the Sepahijala district of Tripura.

According to reports, road construction work between Dhanpur and Induria has been ongoing for a month.

Reportedly, a total of seven workers were engaged in building a box culvert when the incident occurred.

The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Madan Majumdar from Nalchar Kathaliamura, was plastering a culvert wall when a sudden landslide buried him under the soil, resulting in spot death. However, the two other workers sustained injuries and were rescued.

The injured workers, Suman Debbarma and Tarun Tripura from Manu, Ambassa, were rescued and taken to Dhanpur Primary Health Center for treatment.

Fire service personnel from Kathalia rushed to the scene, retrieving Madan Majumdar’s body and transporting it to Kathalia Social Health Center. His body was later moved to Sonamura Social Health Center, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday.

Sonamura police launched an investigation into the incident, arriving at the site by evening. Authorities are now examining the cause of the landslide and whether safety measures at the construction site were adequate.

The accident has raised concerns about the working conditions at the site, highlighting the risks labourers face in infrastructure projects. Local authorities may introduce stricter safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
