Protest in Tripura: The party alleged that the state govt has failed to act on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recent directive.
The Tipra Motha Party intensified its demand for the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants in Tripura by organizing a protest rally in the Jirania subdivision of West Tripura district yesterday. The party alleged that the state government has failed to act on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recent directive and warned of a state-wide agitation if the issue remains unaddressed.
The rally was led by Tipra Motha MLAs, senior leaders, and an Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Following the demonstration, a memorandum was submitted to Jirania BDO Shanti Ranjan Chamkma, addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Speaking to the media, Tipra Motha MLA Biswajit Kaloi criticized the BJP-led state government, saying, “BJP-ruled states like Rajasthan and even neighboring Assam have taken visible steps to identify and deport illegal immigrants. But here in Tripura, which shares a long and porous border and has suffered major demographic changes, no significant move has been made.”
He added that the state’s international border remains vulnerable and continues to witness unchecked infiltration. The party has demanded the formation of a special task force and the installation of CCTV surveillance along the border to curb illegal entry and facilitate prompt deportation.
On May 19, the MHA directed all state governments and Union Territories to begin identifying and deporting illegal immigrants within 30 days. Tipra Motha claims the Tripura government has not taken any visible steps in compliance. Kaloi warned that failure to act would result in a state-wide agitation.
