Three tribal youths from Tripura, who were detained by the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) near the Indo-Bangla international border in Sepahijala district, have safely returned home after being handed over to Indian authorities.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when the youths were apprehended by BGB personnel near Kuiyapania in Kasba Upazila, Bangladesh. The trio, identified as Dhojan Debbarma (35), Tom Debbarma (33), and Bimal Debbarma (36), had ventured beyond the barbed-wire fence with permission from the Border Security Force (BSF) to work in a paddy field but inadvertently crossed into Bangladeshi territory.

Following their detention, they were taken to Chandidar Border Outpost (BOP) and later transferred to police stations in Kasba and Brahmanbaria for interrogation. Authorities found no incriminating items in their possession.

A flag meeting between the BSF and BGB led to their release. The youths were formally handed over at the Kamalasagar Mia Para border outpost and later taken to the Madhupur police station. By evening, they were reunited with their families, who expressed immense relief at their safe return.

Tripura, which shares an 856 km-long border with Bangladesh, faces unique challenges due to unfenced sections and the absence of a no-man’s land, leading to occasional unintentional crossings.

This incident highlights the importance of caution among border residents while also showcasing the effective cooperation between Indian and Bangladeshi border authorities in resolving such issues amicably.
