In a continued crackdown on individuals allegedly supporting Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, Assam Police arrested three more persons from different parts of the state. With these fresh arrests, the total number of people taken into custody for making seditious remarks has risen to 42, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
The latest individuals arrested have been identified as Azibor Rehman, Joynal Uddin, and Asraful Islam. Police arrested them for allegedly defending Pakistan on Indian soil through their statements and social media posts.
Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that Assam Police are taking strict and swift action against those making anti-national and seditious remarks. He stressed that such behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, especially during this sensitive period.
“There are no similarities between Bharat and Pakistan. The two countries are enemy nations and we must remain like that,” CM Sarma said earlier while addressing the media.
The arrests come amid heightened alertness and law enforcement efforts to maintain communal harmony in the state, following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. In that attack, terrorists struck the Baisaran area in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people, including foreign tourist.
Among those arrested earlier was AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, who was taken into custody and booked under sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan.
