Tension Flares Up in Manipur’s Leitanpokpi

Tension flared up at Leitanpokpi, located along the peripheral areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, after Kuki and Meitei villagers started pelting stones and using slingshots against each other, preventing farmers from cultivating their land.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of villagers from Kangpokpi descended on the farmlands in Leitanpokpi and prevented farmers from continuing their agricultural activities.

The situation escalated quickly, with verbal altercations turning into stone pelting and the use of slingshots between the two groups. Tension prevails in the area.

Joint teams of Security Forces are trying to diffuse the situation firing tear gas and smoke bombs. BSF, Assam Rifles, CRPF and a team led by additional SP of Imphal East are on ground.
