However, swift and coordinated action by BSF and BGB officials quickly brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation.
Tensions briefly flared along the unfenced Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district during a routine border pillar survey near Muktapur.
According to BSF officials, the incident occurred when survey teams from both India and Bangladesh arrived at the site for a scheduled inspection, accompanied by personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The situation escalated when a group of Bangladeshi youths and children, who were playing nearby, panicked at the sight of the armed forces, leading to a brief exchange between local residents and the security personnel.
However, swift and coordinated action by BSF and BGB officials quickly brought the situation under control, preventing further escalation. Security forces from both sides have now increased vigilance in the area to maintain calm and prevent any future incidents.
