The teaching will begin from the primary level and continue through secondary classes starting August 16, 2025.

In a landmark move to promote indigenous language and culture, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has announced that the Tai Khamti language will be introduced as the third language in all government and private schools, along with Buddha Viharas, across Namsai district. The teaching will begin from the primary level and continue through secondary classes starting August 16, 2025.

“We must preserve our cultural roots through language. Introducing Tai Khamti in schools is a proud and historic step for our community,” said Deputy CM Chowna Mein while chairing a district-level development meeting at the DC Conference Hall in Namsai on Friday.

An action plan has been finalised to roll out the language teaching program systematically across educational institutions in the district, with necessary training and resources to be provided to instructors.

Apart from the language initiative, the meeting also approved several development and conservation programmes. The district will celebrate ‘Nadi Utsav’ on July 8, during which fish fingerlings will be released in major streams and rivers to replenish freshwater fish populations.

The administration will also adopt one village from each constituency to be developed as a model under the “Cleanliest Village” initiative. As part of the ‘Clean & Green Namsai’ mission, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign will be carried out in all government offices, institutions, schools, and along roadways to boost greenery and public engagement.

To curb the growing threat of drug abuse and wildlife crimes, the administration will enforce strict surveillance measures, including deploying flying squads to prevent illegal hunting and fishing, especially during night hours.

Deputy CM Mein also reviewed the progress of the Borbeel Lake restoration project and called for timely, sustainable, and people-centric implementation.

The meeting was attended by MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, DC C R Khampa, ZPC Urmila Mancheykun, ZPM Chongkham, ADCs of Chongkham and Wakro, community leaders, and Head Bhantes of Namsai, Kherem, and Golden Pagoda.
