Suspected Bomb-like Objects Recovered from Guwahati’s Satgaon and Last Gate Areas

First Published: 16th August, 2024 15:35 IST

Authorities have temporarily suspended traffic in the Satgaon area as a precautionary measure.

More suspected bomb-like materials have been recovered by Guwahati Police from Satgaon and Last Gate areas of the city today.

The recovery comes amid heightened security measures following a warning from the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), which claimed to have planted bombs throughout the state in celebration of Independence Day.

Authorities have temporarily suspended traffic in the Satgaon area as a precautionary measure.

Bomb disposal teams have been deployed to both the scenes to safely manage and investigate the materials.

Yesterday, the Guwahati Police recovered bomb-like substances from Pan Bazar (heart of the city and a busy locality) and Gandhi Mandap area of the city.

It may be mentioned that the ULFA-I in the mail on Wednesday claimed that explosives had been planted in around 25 locations in Guwahati, Sivasagar, Lakua, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Laluk, Borghat, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Dibrugarh.

In response to the threats of ULFA-I, the Assam police have launched a statewide operation.

According to reports, the group’s devices reportedly failed to detonate due to technical malfunctions.

The situation remains under control as police continue to assess the potential threat and ensure public safety.
