According to laboratory test results, at least three batches of Pantop-DSR sold in pharmacies across Mizoram were of poor quality. This was informed by the state food and drug administration officials of the health department on Friday.

Of the samples sent to the Government Analyst, Regional Drug Testing Laboratory in Guwahati, three Pantop-DSR batches were found to be of ‘substandard quality.”

According to medical officials, while the labels indicated that Pantoprazole and Domperidone were present in all of the capsules, the test results revealed that none of the properties were present.

The labels also indicated that the said batches of Pantop-DSR were manufactured by Aristo Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., and when state FDA officials inquired, the company informed them that they did not manufacture the drugs.

Based on the company’s clarification, the state health department decided that the said batches of Pantop-DSR were spurious and manufactured by criminal elements.

Meanwhile, pharmacies and drug stores across Mizoram have been notified to verify their medicine stock and return the three batches of Pantop-DSR from their stocks to the state FDA immediately.

As the spurious drugs were imported from Guwahati, the Assam Drug Controller was notified and apprised of the situation while an investigation was launched to nab the culprits.
