The SSA teachers threatened to launch a ‘civic and democratic’ agitation programme if the Government fails to release their pending salary on or before October 16, 2023
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers of Meghalaya have served the State Government an ultimatum of a week till October 16 to release their salaries that have been pending for three months (From July to September 2023).
The central body- All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), on behalf of all the SSA teachers, wrote to state’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma outlining the issue and urged him to address their grievances at the earliest.
“We SSA teachers of Meghalaya are discharging our duties with empty stomach since last three months i.e. from July to September 2023. Teachers are not getting their monthly
salaries till date. Moreover, we have to clear our children’s school fees at this time before annual examination 2023. Besides, some of our Hindu brethren or colleagues are preparing for their big Puja festival. They also need their budget for their Puja celebration. Therefore, Sir, we humbly urge you to kindly release our three months pending salary I.e. from July to September 2023 with immediate effect,” wrote AGHSSASTA in its letter CM Sangma.
The SSA teacher further threatened that they would launch a ‘civic and democratic’ agitation programme for the welfare of all the aggrieved SSA teachers’ community, if the Government fails to release their pending salary on or before October 16, 2023.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, State Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said that the Central Government is yet to release the first installment sanctioned till now for payment of salaries to the SSA teachers in the state. “We will release the SSA teachers’ salaries for two-month soon.”
