The UP Additional DGP also said Sonam has left behind a trail of evidence and added that the Meghalaya Police has correctly picked up the evidence trail
Today is day 18 of the intensely dramatic Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi honeymoon and murder case that has kept us curious with its thick plot, many twists and turns and many questions are yet to be answered.
Today is going to be another day full of intense action as Sonam Raghuvanshi the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja will be brought to Shillong and then taken to Sohra to recreate the entire crime scene.
The 24 year old missing Indore bride Sonam, accused of plotting the murder of her 29 year old husband Raja Raghuvanshi in the Sohra area of Meghalaya, is now trying to play the victim card. She is trying to say she was kidnapped, drugged and landed in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. But most people are not prepared to believe her rightaway. Amitabh Yash, Additional DG of UP Police told the media that Sonam was trying to act as the victim. The UP Additional DGP also said Sonam has left behind a trail of evidence and added that the Meghalaya Police has correctly picked up the evidence trail.
Now Sonam’s father insists his daughter is innocent and has blamed the Meghalaya Police for trying to frame her. But her brother Govind, who had reached Ghazipur yesterday after Sonam was picked up from a dhaba on the Varanasi-ghaziour highway, told reporters that she should be hanged if found guilty. We will accept the decision of the government , Sonam’s brother was quoted as saying.
Sonam is the prime suspect in Raja’ s murder and is accused of plotting it with the help of her 21 year old lover Raj Kushwaha, a worker in her father’s plywood factory. Sonam, Raj, and three other men, said to be contract killers from Madhya Pradesh, have since been arrested.
Lot of questions arise: Raja, according to his family, wanted to go to Sri Lanka for his honeymoon but Sonam insisted on visiting Meghalaya. Was it part of the plan?
The couple arrived in Shillong on May 21 and left for Sohra on May 22. They disappeared on May 23. While Raja’ s partially decomposed body was recovered on June 2 with the autopsy revealing stab wounds, including one on the back of his head, Sonam surfaces in Ghazipur on June 9, a full 17 days after her disappearance.
Where was Sonam for the past 17 days? Who was or were giving her company? According to Meghalaya Deputy CM Preston Tyngson, the murder was carried out on May 23 and Sonam and her accomplices left Meghalaya the same day. The accused took a train from Guwahati on May 24th.
Now, did Raj Kushwaha, Sonam’ s alleged lover, also come to Meghalaya or was he coordinating the operation from Indore? Some media reports said Raj Kushwaha coordinated the whole operation from Indore itself over the phone.
Authorities in Meghalaya say the machete or the dao, used in all probability in the killing of Raja, was brought from Guwahati perhaps because it is not a traditional Khasi dao.
Raja was apparently wearing jewellery worth at least Rs ten lakh. Has the jewellery been found or are they missing?
All these questions and more and the whole murder plot would be unraveled once Sonam and the four other arrested accused reach Shillong this evening and face the grilling from sleuths of the Meghalaya Police. And yes, they would be taken to Sohra for recreation of the events at the crime scene. On the whole, this is the biggest murder mystery in the northeast in many years.
