Soaring Mercury: Schools in Kamrup Metro in Assam to Remain Closed from Sept 24-27

First Published: 23rd September, 2024 16:52 IST

All government, provincialized, and private schools in Kamrup Metro will remain closed due to extreme heat conditions, following reports of students falling ill from heat exposure.

Amid intense heat condition and the mercury soaring to 5-6 degrees above normal resulting in students fainting and falling ill because of the unbearable heat, the Kamrup Metro District has announced the closure of all schools in the district from September 24 to 27.

The decision was made following reports from school heads about incidents of students experiencing ill-health, dehydration, and fainting due to the extreme heat. The order, approved by the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, aims to protect students and staff from the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to excessive heat.

“This decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid the rising temperatures,” the official statement said.

Earlier, the Cachar, Dibrugarh and Kamrup Metro district administrations had issued orders revising the school timings and issuing guidelines for the school regarding morning assemblies etc. to keep the children safe from the sweltering heat.
