AMC deployed 100 volunteers and arranging cranes to ensure the smooth handling of large idols.
The immersion of Durga idols resumed on Sunday at Dashami Ghat in Agartala, as several idols from household pujas were yet to be immersed after Saturday’s main event in accordance with tradition.
Chief Minister Manik Saha was among the devotees present, as his family’s Durga idol was brought for immersion. He lauded the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) for their exceptional arrangements, ensuring a smooth and peaceful event. Saha praised Mayor Deepak Majumdar for effectively managing the process, including the use of cranes and volunteers to handle larger idols, along with enhanced security measures.
Reflecting on previous years, the Chief Minister noted that the immersion at Dashami Ghat used to be risky, with incidents of violence occurring. However, since the change in government, the situation has significantly improved, with peace and order now prevailing.
Saha highlighted this year’s arrangements as part of an effort to make the immersion process safer and more organized, expressing gratitude for the widespread participation of people from all walks of life. He also acknowledged the resilience of the community, especially in the wake of recent challenges like the floods that affected the state.
Mayor Deepak Majumdar, who was present at the ghat, personally oversaw the immersion, with the AMC deploying 100 volunteers and arranging cranes to ensure the smooth handling of large idols, resulting in a disruption-free event.
